Meet The Rogers:
Pastor Don R. Rogers is the youngest of 12 children, born in Elora Ontario.
As young as age 13 he felt that he would one day be in the ministry.
During his teen years he served as youth leader in his home Church.
Carol (the youngest of 5 children) moved to Elora when she was 13 yrs old and
Don already had his romantic eye on her. They began dating in their late
teens and after about 1 year Don asked her to marry him. A couple days
later Carol responded with an enthusiastic 'yes'
The Rogers have three children. Kevin is married and pastoring an inner
city church in Windsor Ontario. He and his wife Marsha have three
children.
Lynn is married and serves with her husband as music pastors at Windsor
Christian Fellowship. They have seven children.
Wanda and her husband live in Amherstburg Ontario and have two children. Her
husband has three children to a former marriage.
Don had done some lay ministry in the early years of their marriage, then in
1966 began a Bible College Correspondence course out of Eastern Pentecostal
Bible College. At the same time, he was invited to become the pastor of
the Pentecostal Church in Southampton Ontario. It was a small congregation
that promised to pay them $15.00 per week 'if it came in' Some rather
remarkable answers to prayer took place which resulted in a Dairy foreman job in
Port Elgin Ontario.
Just a few days before the dairy job opened, after a Sunday evening service
the Rogers talked about what the would do. They only had about $50 left
and no job to support the family. Don decided to drive to Elora and talk
with his former pastor for some advice. He dropped in at his parents place and
discovered that their home church had received a grocery shower for them the day
before. They had no idea how they would get the groceries to the Rogers (about
90 miles away)
The pastor was not home, so Don went to Guelph Ontario to see another pastor
for advice. He was quite familiar with Southampton and really wanted us to
stay there and minister to those people. After some encouraging words and
prayer, he gave Don a cheque for $100.00 (more than a week's pay in the 60's)
So off to home Don goes with the cheque and a car literally full of
groceries. - the trunk, the back seat, and the front passenger side all
loaded. Passing through Harriston Ontario, he dropped by to visit his
sister & brother in-law. He learned that they had a young calf that
had broken it's back and would need to be butchered. His brother in-law said the
Rogers could have the meat, but would have to come back and pick it up.
The next day, Don got a temporary job in Owen Sound that would begin the
following week. A week, later Don picked up the meat from the butchered
calf, then drove to Port Elgin to rent a frozen food locker for storage. During the conversation with the manager of the dairy there, he was told that
when the job in Owen Sound ended, there would be a job waiting for him in Port
Elgin. About 3 months into the job at Port Elgin, Don was made foreman of the
dairy operations.
As we look back on those days, we are blessed to realize how the Lord
provided for us in so many ways.
God is faithful.
